I remember some early info from Chevy saying the steering gear must be reprogrammed when replaced, yet I've seen plenty of used racks for sale, and even used motor assemblies. In early 2011 & 2012 Dealers were replacing racks due to notchy steering complaints. Web10 apr. 2024 · Hi and thanks for taking my question. I have the vehicle listed above that needs to have the Steering Rack and Pinion replaced. I've been quoted $2,600.00 to do it at the dealer. I have a private mechanic who can replace it if I buy the part, but he does not have the Ford computer to program the new Rack.

Web22 apr. 2011 · Anyone had to replace a steering rack? there is a distinct clonk when waggling the wheel from left to right, I am guessing it is the inner tie rod, as in the picture, all the ball joints feel correct and the clonk can be felt on the rack itself, may also explain a lack of directional stability at speed. The intermediate shaft can cause a clunk and is subject to a TSB or recall. The torque sensor was also the subject of a recall. Perhaps a second opinion from another alignment shop is in order.
Web20 apr. 2024 · You dont need to remove the sub frame at all, if you remove the track rod ends from both ends, remove the near side track rod , disconnect the gearchange cables and tie them up out of the way, remove the exhaust box and you can get it out no problem. Removing the sub frame is a whole lot of work for just getting the rack out !! gary beamon
